Having been a customer for many years, Josh is pleased to be part of the team at Mantel Farm. He thoroughly enjoys keeping chickens and has been keeping his own for several years. During that time he has kept numerous breeds: mixed hybrid hens, Buff Orpingtons, Cream Legbars, Rhode Island Reds, and Marans. Many of these have been from eggs he has placed under broody hens, but has had some experience using an incubator and rearing his own chicks too.

Throughout the years he has had a number of of cockerels with various temperaments, ranging from the fiercely defensive cream legbar and French Copper Maran to the soppiest of them all, the Buff Orpington. The Orpington breed being a particular favorite of his due to their gentle nature and large build; though, the French Copper Maran cockerel was absolutely stunning, he wouldn't allow anyone but him into the chicken run.

When not tending to his own chickens or those at Mantel Farm, he is looking after his bees. Having kept bees for a few years and having recently attended a basic beekeeping course, he has experience and knowledge of these incredible insects.

You will see Josh in the shop on Sundays and some of you may see him during the week if you board your animals with us.
