A One Day Course

  Advanced Beekeeping Course  

For those with 2 or more years experience wishing to keep their bees healthy and content by understanding their requirements and behaviour.  Including important manipulations such as finding the queen, requeening, shook swarms, basic queen rearing, collecting, preventing and control of swarms.  Managing the honey crop and how to recognise, prevent and deal with diseases, pests and other problems which may arise.



Course Programme: 
1 day: 9.30am - 4.30pm

1. Bee Biology and Behaviour
A more detailed look at the Honey Bee

2. Space Requirements and Inspections
Knowing what they need, winter preparations

3. Important Manipulations
Swarms, their collection, control and prevention

4. Hive Products
Producing Wax, Honey and Honey Regulations

5. Queen Rearing
Easy methods to select and rear good queens

6. Bee  Health, Diseases and Problems
Keeping Bees healthy, dealing with pests, diseases and problems

7. Nutritional requirements and Important Plants
How to recognise and treat them


An informal day spent with others with a basic understanding of beekeeping. A wealth of information from a highly experienced beekeeper and a chance to progress your knowledge and understanding, along with a useful pack of course notes to take away.

Refreshments will be provided, including a buffet lunch and a 'honey-themed' cake.

Parking is available at the entrance to our farm and our training room is just short walk down our track.

Where the bees and weather allow, this course will include an inspection of a bee hive.

What To Bring:

Just bring yourself, confirmation of your booking, a notebook and any questions you may have, along with a beesuit, gloves and wellies (please contact us in advance if you need to borrow a suit).

Amanda is a professional ecologist who has been keeping up to 25 colonies of bees for about fifteen years. During that time she has attained British Beekeepers' Association theory modules 1 to 7 with credits and distinctions and the Intermediate certificate. On the practical side she has the Basic Assessment and the General Husbandry Certificate making her a 'Qualified Beekeeper'. She has also won prizes at the National Honey Show for honey and other products.
