  Chicken Handling and Health Check  


A demonstration on how to correctly handle poultry and carry out a basic health check.

What To Expect:



2pm for approximatley 30 mins

  • Catching a chicken
  • Holding a chicken
  • Inspecting for fleas and lice
  • Clipping a wing
  • Handling technique for treatments

The more you handle your chickens the more friendly and calm they will become in your company.

Some chicken keepers plan to spend a lot of time with their hens and others simply like to know how to handle them should it become necessary.

This demonstration is aimed at all beginners who would like to feel confident that they are handling their hens in the correct way, and whilst doing so can carry out a basic health check.


A demonstration from an experienced chicken keeper on how to handle poultry. A chance for you to handle poultry yourself and ask any questions you may have on a one-to-one basis.

Parking is available at the entrance to our farm and our training room is just short walk down our track.

Just bring yourself, confirmation of your booking, a notebook and any questions you may have.

Jason is the co-owner and runs Mantel Farm with Kerry. When Jason is on the farm he can usually be found either caring for the animals or carrying out his latest building project. As well as becoming our expert in chicken care he also makes our chicken enclosures, designing and installing runs in customers' gardens, coming up with a layout that will work well in each and every garden or smallholding.
