South of England Show prize draw winner announced

What a lovely 'wild' month June was for us!  after a very long year it finally feels as though things are heading back to normal...

We are gradually welcoming more and more people back in to our shop, our training courses are up and running, pets are arriving for their holidays and the chicken pens are full, but the event that made such a difference to us was attending the South of England Show;  when we heard the show was on we struggled to decide if we should go along - having worked so hard to keep everyone safe during the lockdown we wondered if we really wanted to be on a showground full of people...  what would the show be like? and would many people go along? however we are so pleased we took part - the showground had put in place many arrangements to keep things running safely, tickets were sold out each day and we chatted to so many lovely people interested in garden farming...  The show even felt smaller and more welcoming than usual and both our boys were with us to help on the stand so it made a lovely family weekend.

We are now getting near to the end of our '30 days wild' with the Sussex Wildlife Trust, this has been great fun and we would recommend anyone gives it a go at any time - taking time each day to think about the outdoors, the wildlife and many special things around us is time well spent - to see some of the little things we have been doing just visit our facebook page.

We also hosted our first bee experience day with Dr Nikki Gammans from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and spent a fun, sunny day learning all about the bees in our garden, now we just have to decide which one of us will be lucky enough to sit on the next course and who is working in the shop when Nikki joins us again in July! we may have to pull names from a hat! which brings me on to our prize draw winner....

At the South of England show we ran a prize draw for a £198 training voucher and we are pleased to announce the winner, more info below....

With our best wishes from Kerry, Jason and all at Mantel Farm.

Our attempts to re-queen in order to create calmer, less swarmy bees are finally paying off with queens in the hives.  Take a look inside our hives with our short video clips..

Amandas Beekeeping notes ...

The weather in the early part of June was ideal for queen mating.  My puzzle cluster now has brood... Two of my three apidea mated very quickly and had eggs when I looked 7 days after making them up. They now have the most beautiful slabs of even capped brood and I am delighted with them.
