January is that funny time of year, with the mixed emotions of planning things new and also realising that some of those resolutions just didn't even make the end of January! So this year at Mantel Farm we want to simply try to take more time to appreciate and enjoy the things around us as it is all too easy to rush from one thing to another and not take the time to stop and enjoy it...
This week Josh and Roger will be back in the Apiary to check on the bees so if you are a keen beekeeper or just wanting to know what goes on in a beehive; why not watch our weekly videos on YouTube. We have also captured a few videos of the hens and we are planning more clips of the farm throughout the year. Tracy is still popping updates on our Facebook, Instagram and Google pages so please have a look, share, like, comment and leave a review as it is so important to our business.
This weekend is the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch so we will be spending a quiet hour counting the wild birds in our garden with a cup of tea in hand! (a nice change from the chaos of counting chickens in the barn!). Our chickens are of course still locked inside due to the Avian Influenza Housing Requirements across the country and with over 65 cases now recorded in the UK it is so important that we all continue to follow strict biosecurity measures to try to limit the spread of this virus. Dont forget also when feeding the wild birds in your garden, not to encourage them near to your chicken pens, regularly clean all garden feeders with a mild disinfectant and regularly remove any old food.
Our shop is now open as usual on a Friday and Sunday from 10am till 4pm and our first flocks of Hybrids and Pekins will be arriving in the next couple of weeks. Our training courses begin again in Feb with courses then running most weekends covering everything from Bumblebee Identification to Trug Making; Chicken Chatters to Willow Weaving.
And our exciting news for the start of 2022....We are so pleased to welcome Mollie to Mantel Farm with her holistics business... Some of you may have met Mollie already on our Bath-Bomb workshops, or enjoyed her hand-made soaps for sale in our shop and on our website, but soon Mollie will be on hand here with 'Mollie Florence Holistics' operating from her new Shepherds-hut located in our Bee-Garden (see her Reel on Instagram). Mollie (our niece) is a qualified member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and has been practicing Aromatherapy and Body Massage for a number of years now so having her own space will enable her grow her business and offer holistic therapy sessions from the calm of the countryside.
With our best wishes for 2022
from Kerry, Jason and all at Mantel Farm.
