There has been aconfirmed case of H5N1 Avian Influenza in Bexhill on Sea. This unfortunately puts Mantel Farm into a Surveillance Zone but also means that many of our customers in the Bexhill area are now in a 3km Protection Zone.
The Protection Zone is a 3km radius, centred on grid reference TQ760709040 Bexhill-on-Sea. The Surveillance Zone is a 10km radius, from the same point.
A map showing the 3km and 10km zones is shown above and a more detailed map is available on the Gov.UK site, please see the link below.
Birds within the 3km zone should be kept housed. Birds within the 10km zone can be allowed outdoors but there is no movement of birds or eggs within both zones (except under license) and strict biosecurity measures must be followed.
We are unfortunately unable to take in animals for boarding or sell any chickens at the current time. If you have placed an order for chickens or have a chicken boarding with us and we have not already spoken then please get in touch asap.
Our animals have been moved into the barn to keep them as safe as possible and to ensure that we have the required measurements in place. The well-being of our birds is of the upmost importance to us.
The shop will be open as usual but there will be strictly no access to the chicken area.
We will be constantly reviewing the situation and will keep you all up to date as and when we receive more information. The link below provides information about the local control zones and requirements for poultry keepers.
We hope for the sake of the poultry, our customers and our business that this will be an isolated case and ask you all to follow strict biosecurity in these times to help prevent any further cases. For any queries please get in touch and we will help where we can. You can also contact the APHA advice line on 03000 200 301
